Ever since the veteran actress Jayanthi aka Kamala Kumari admitted to the hospital complaining of difficulty in breathing, her death rumours have been rounds on the social media. After the reports of her demise went viral on the internet, her family refuted the rumours, saying the actress is recovering well.
Jayanthi’s son spoke to Sakshi.com. He said, “There is no truth in the news of Jayanti's death in social media. Some TV channels reported that she was dead which is untrue as they were confused regarding her health.”
Jayanthi has worked in more than 500 films in several languages including Kannada, Telegu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Marathi. She dominated the industry from the 1960s to 1980s, She has been conferred with two Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Actress, the President’s Medal for Best Actress and two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress throughout her acting career.
Kannada film industry fondly refers to Jayanthi as ‘Abhinaya Sharadhe’, which means Goddess Sharada in acting, as she displayed such an impeccable acting prowess. She shared the screen space with classic actor Gemini Ganesan. In Tamil film industry, she has shared the screen space with almost every renowned actor including Gemini Ganesan, R Muthuraman, MG Ramachandran and Jaishankar. She also acted with Jayalalitha and Manorama in Mugaraasi.
The veteran actress was admitted to Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru complaining of chronic severe asthma and acute respiratory failure.
