In the latest development for Vijay starrer Tamil film Mersal controversy, Income Tax Department officials raided popular Tamil actor Vishal’s production house on Monday. The I-T Sleuths paid the sudden visit a day after Vishal spoke against the BJP's national secretary H Raja for watching a pirated version of Mersal online. It was reported that the officials raided the production firm in Chennai to clarify on 50 lakhs deducted as tax at source by Vishal from his employees. The actor is yet to deposit it with the government and hence, has been asked to present papers, the reports added.
Vishal, who was not at his office when the officials paid visit to his production house, spoke about the whole incident later. "I am honest and tax compliant. I shall face it. I'm yet to get complete details.Even if it is vendetta I shall face it". Asked whether he thinks there is a link between the income tax visit and his taking on a leader of the BJP, which rules at the Centre, Vishal said, "I don't think so. Did I threaten him?”, the 40-year-old actor was quoted as saying.
The reports, however, were denied by the GST Intelligence. "It is to clarify that the officers of DGGSTI have not conducted any such search operations and the news which is being circulated is factually incorrect and false," Joint Director of DGGSTI PVK Rajasekhar said in a release.
Directed by Atlee Kumar, ,Mersal features the actor in triple role. Mersal also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in pivotal roles. Both Atlee and Vijay have collaborated for the second time in Mersal. They have earlier worked together in Theri. Mersal has collected Rs 155 crore in six days, latest buzz suggest.
