Shah Rukh Khan’s highly-anticipated film Zero released on the silverscreen clashing with Yash’s KGF: Chapter 1. While SRK’s film Zero has earned around Rs 20 crore on domestic box office, Yash’s KGF managed to earn Rs 25 crore worldwide on its first day of release. Despite the competition with the superstar SRK, the Kannada film has been a top choice among the movie goers in Karnataka. In Bengaluru alone, KGF: Chapter 1 has managed to earn around Rs 5 crore on its day 1.
KGF: Chapter 1 was not only competing with Zero, in fact, Dhanush’s film Maari 2 also released on the same day. The release of other big films did impact KGF’s collection, but earning such a huge amount from one city is a great record in itself.
KGF was expected to be alongside Prabhas’ Baahubali in Kannada cinema in terms of earnings. But the first day collection of Yash starrer is way too less than the Rajamouli wonder. Baahubali 2 earned more than Rs 100 crore on its first day itself, which is a gargantuan record to break.
KGF stands for Kolar Gold Frields. The first part of the series has been released on December 21. The film is set in the 1970s. Apart from Yash, Achyuth Kumar, Anant Nag, Srinidhi Shetty, Malavika Avinash and Vasishta N Simha are also seen playing important roles in the film.
