Malang starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu in the lead roles sees a slight increase in its box office collection on Day 2. The Mohit Suri directorial which opened to Rs 6.71 crore has earned Rs 8.89 crore on Saturday. However, trade analysts consider the collection to be low because of the popular genre and the star cast.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to put day 2 collection of the film. ''#Malang witnesses substantial growth on Day 2, despite #Delhi having limited screenings... Should score on Day 3 [Sun] as well... Eyes ₹ 24 cr [+/-] weekend - the highest for #AdityaRoyKapur [solo hero films]... Fri 6.71 cr, Sat 8.89 cr. Total: ₹ 15.60 cr. #India biz,'' he wrote.
The crime-thriller marks the reunion of Aditya Roy Kapur and Mohit Suri after romantic saga Aashiqui 2. The movie which released in 2013 marked the debut of Aditya and Shraddha Kapoor.
Sharing Malang's performance on Day 1, Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter: "Malang is decent on Day 1... Should've grossed higher given its genre... National multiplexes contribute 50%+ of Day 1 business... Mass circuits low... Needs to show more than normal jump on Day 2, though business in #Delhi will be limited... Fri Rs 6.71 cr. #India business."
Interestingly, Malang has also given Aditya Roy Kapur his highest opener so far. Though there is not much difference between the first-day collection of Malang and his debut movie Aashiqui 2.
Malang received a mixed response from film critics. Indiatvnews.com's movie critic Sonal Gera in her review called Malang a one-time watch. ''Malang' is a one-time affair. Watch it for taking a mini-vacay to Goa (without taking the pain to travel), Kunal Khemu's stellar act, Aditya Roy Kapoor's brilliance, and for its potion-to-the-ears music. Skip it if you are an Anil Kapoor fan''. Read full review here.
Malang hit the screens with two other films- Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Shikara and Vikram Bhatt's Hacked, starring Hina Khan.
