Golden Globe Awards 2023 Highlights: RRR loses in best non-English film category; Naatu Naatu wins

The biggest highlight of the Golden Globes Awards 2023 for India is RRR's win. While the S.S. Rajamouli directorial 'RRR' bagged the Golden Globe for Original song, it lost out the bigger share of the pie -- that of the Best Motion Picture Non-English award to the Argentine film 'Argentina, 1985'.

'RRR' was India's big hope at the Golden Globes this year, but it left the Indian community and the diaspora with a bittersweet feeling as it bagged one award out of two nominations -- Original Song 'Nattu Nattu' but failed to secure the trophy for Best Motion Picture Non-English.

The last award for the night goes to The Fabelmans for Best Picture - Drama.

House Of Dragons rightly won the award for Best Drama Series. On the other hand, The Banshees of Inisherin bagged the award for Best Picture - Musical/Comedy.

The award for Best Musical/Comedy Series goes to Abbott Elementary. The star cast arrives at the stage to accept the honor. It stars Quinta Brunson, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, Tyler James William and others.

Eddie Murphy bags this year's Cecil B. DeMille Award. His decades of unbeatable comedy and incredible performances is celebrated on the Golden Globe 2023 stage. He expresses his gratitude as Jamie Lee Curtis presented him the award.

The award for Best Television Actor in a Drama Series goes to Kevin Costner

The trophy for Best Actor - Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture was held by Evan Peters for the role of Jeffrey Dahmer. The 35-year-old actor plays the notorious serial killer, who was convicted of murdering 17 men between 1978 and 1991,in the Netflix series 'Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story'.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a virtual appearance at the 80th Golden Globes awards ceremony, during which he said "there'll be no third world war, it is not a trilogy". Zelensky addressed the audience via recorded message recalling the start of the Golden Globes in the 1944.

"The second World War wasn't over yet, but the tide was turned, all knew who would win. There were still battles and tears ahead, it was then when the Golden Globes awards appeared to honor the best performers of 1943. It is now 2023 the war in Ukraine is not over yet but the tide is turning. And it is already clear who will win. There are still battles and tears ahead, but now I can definitely tell you who are the best in the previous year, it was you. The free people of the free world. Those who united around the support of the free Ukrainian people in our common struggle for freedom," he said.

The audience cheered when President Zelensky announced his projected victory. "There will be no third World War, it is not a trilogy... Ukraine will stop the Russian aggression on our land."

The White Lotus is the Golden Globe winner for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture! For the same show, Jennifer Coolidge won the award in Best Supporting Actress - Television (Limited Series/Motion Picture) category.

The winner of Best Supporting Actress - Television (Limited Series/Motion Picture) is Jennifer Coolidge for her role in The White Lotus. The actress stunned in a shimmery dress at the Golden Globes Awards 2023.

Steven Spielberg adds another feather to his hat by winning Best Director - Motion Picture for The Fabelmans. The semi-autobiographical movie tells the story of Sam Fabelman, a young boy who falls in love with cinema, but finds himself fighting family turmoil to keep his dream alive.

Martin McDonagh wins Best Screenplay - Motion Picture for The Banshees of Inisherin. Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, the film stars Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them. Its lead actor Colin Farrel won in Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture category.

RRR loses Golden Globe Award to Argentina 1985 in Best Non-English Language Film category.

Michelle Yeoh won the Best Actress - Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy award at the Golden Globes 2023 for her role in 'Everything Everywhere All At Once', she took a moment on stage to slam racism that she faced during the initial stage of her career. Summing up her journey of 40 years, she took her sweet time to let it sink in as he laid her hands on the trophy.

Colin Farrell won the award for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy honour at the 80th Golden Globes awards. He was nominated for his series 'The Banshees of Inisherin'. It is a dark tragicomedy film directed by Martin McDonagh.

Farrell was contending in the category with Diego Calva ('Babylon'), Daniel Craig ('Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery'), Adam Driver ('White Noise') and Ralph Fiennes ('The Menu').

Zendaya does it again! The actress has won the Best Television Actress award in the Drama Series category for her role Rue Bennett in Euphoria. She also won an Emmy for the same.

Elvis, the movie which looks at Elvis Presley's rise to become one of the hottest acts in rock 'n' roll, as well as his struggles with drugs and changing tastes won a Golden Globe Award. Austin Butler took home the trophy for Best Actor (Motion Picture - Drama).

Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's dream project 'Pinocchio' (officially titled 'Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio') has won Golden Globe Award in Best animated film category.

As NAatu Naatu was announced as the winner, the team of RRR including Ram Charan, Jr NTR and SS Rajamouli erupted in loud cheers. To receive the honour was music composer M. M. Keeravani, who was accompanied with his wife Srivalli. He dedicated the award to Rajamouli and the actors Ram Charan and NTR Jr.

While accepting the award, he said: "Thank you very much for this prestigious award: "This award belongs to SS Rajamouli for his vision, I thank him for constantly believe and supporting my work. N.T. Rama Rao and Ram Charan who danced with full stamina."

 Quinta Brunson is the winner of Golden Globe for Best Television Actress - Musical/Comedy Series for her role in Abbott Elementary.

RRR has won Golden Globe Award. The film’s Telugu track “Naatu Naatu”, composed by veteran music director MM Keeravaani and penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, was nominated in the 'original song–motion picture category'.

Apart from Ram Charan, Jr NTR and SS Rajamouli, the team of "RRR" that reached Golden Globes also included the film's music composer M M Keeravani and producer Shobu Yarlagadda. Ram Charan was accompanied by wife Upasana Kamineni and Jr NTR came with Lakshmi Pranathi. Rajamouli was joined by wife Rama Rajamouli.

Tyler James Williams takes home a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor - Television Series for his role in Abbott Elemantary.
