RAW story: Romeo Akbar Walter is apparently based on the true events that took place in the year 1971 between India and Pakistan. It’s a spy thriller cum spy drama which will make you salute all unheard soldiers, spy, secret agents of the Nation. RAW, the intent behind the name will become clear after watching the movie.
RAW Review: RAW not just stands for the abbreviation of Romeo Akbar Walter but also the identity or say profession of John Abraham. He is chosen by Jackie Shroff (Srikant Rai, Director of RAW) in the movie, as his undercover RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent sent to Pakistan. India and Pakistan were on the verge of war. Thus, in order to get the first-hand information about the enemy, Jackie Shroff put forward his best wager forward. What all made the movie more interesting are the diplomatic dialogs of Jackie Shroff. Directed by Robby Grewal, who has made his comeback as a director after a tenure, it is a decent movie. His last direction was Aloo Chaat in the year 2009.
Pakistan was divided into two major parts East Pakistan and West Pakistan. The story is set on the determination of East Pakistan trying to free themselves as an independent Nation from Pakistan and become Bangladesh. The opening scene of the movie will take you to the detention cell in Pakistan, where John is groaning in pain and bleeding from every inch of his body.
The life of John Abraham is portrayed into three phases. He plays all the characters with his heart and soul. There are a few moments in the movie which will touch you. John’s relationship with his mother Alka Amin, will make you a bit emotional. Also, the song dedicated to the mother (O maa yaad aati ho by Ankit Tiwari) is the only good music you get to see in the movie.
The first half of the movie is indeed slow and took a lot of time to build the entire set up. However, the second half moved first and will bring along major suspense at the end. Also, you will learn the true meaning of Joker in the climax. The story is quite slow and general. But, the rightly displayed feeling of patriotism and belongingness to the Nation, will make the movie stand apart.
Jackie Shroff is playing a solid role and is known as the man of instincts and wise words in the movie. His life lessons to John Abraham while training him, will keep John shielded in the enemy’s court. Magic is nothing but the art of distraction, is what Jackie Shroff’s best move in the movie. The man still possesses his charm and oomph factor even in his 60s.
Overall, if you are a John Abraham fan, you will get a fair chance to see him act purely. Also, Mouni Roy got a very little appearance in the movie, but every time she is on screen, she lifted it up. You will find the movie quite predictable, but the ending will leave you all surprised. In fact, Sikander Kher will be seen acting and lifting up the pace of the movie.
The final tear and salute by John Abraham to the Indian National flag is worth million emotions.
