New Delhi: Hindu leaders in US are upset over comparison between Hindu God Lord Krishna and new X-Men villain Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac.
The trailer of the latest film in X-Men franchisee was released this Friday which shows a blue coloured baddie 'Apocalypse' saying: “I have been called many things over many lifetimes - Ra, Krishna, Yahweh.”
Rajan Zed,a Hindu leader based in Nevada said in a statement "Such trivialization of Lord Krishna, who is highly revered in Hinduism, is quite inappropriate and disturbing to the devotees."
"Lord Krishna was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not for pushing movies for mercantile greed of filmmakers," Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out.
Urging director Bryan Singer to remove all references to Lord Krishna from both the trailer and the film, he siad it may confuse non-Hindus about the religion.
“The inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts for commercial or other agenda is not okay,” he said. “This is another example of the poor use of Hinduism culture in Hollywood."
