New York: American actor Charlie Sheen, most popularly known for his role in hit TV series ‘Two and a Half Men', has revealed that he is HIV positive.

The 50-year-old actor made the announcement during a live interview on NBC's show ‘Today' on Tuesday.

Sheen disclosed that he learned about the diagnosis roughly 4 years ago.

"I've told enough that I trusted," the actor replied on the question on how many people he had told about the diagnosis.

He added that he paid millions of dollars to people to keep the HIV positive diagnosis under wraps.

Drug and alcohol use have marred Sheen's personal and professional life in recent years. He was kicked off CBS' "Two and a Half Men" in 2011 after an explosive meltdown that included calling the show's producer "a contaminated little maggot."

His escapades have also included the revelation that he spent more than $50,000 as a client of "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss' prostitution ring.

"Two and a Half Men" debuted in 2003 and starred Sheen as womanizing bachelor Charlie Harper. It made Sheen one of TV's highest-paid actors and at its peak was TV's most-watched sitcom.

Between May 2010 and 2011, he was the highest paid actor on television earning $40 million, according to Forbes.
