London: Latin superstar Ricky Martin has spilled the beans on his struggle to face the world over his sexuality, insisting he was prepared to give up his career and fame to run away with a lover he was smitten with.
The singer said he fell in love with a man so deeply that he wanted to throw his career to live a life of anonymity in Asia or Europe, reports the Daily Express.
"I wanted to leave everything and I even told him, 'You know what, let's go out and go to Europe, let's go to Asia...' because I didn't want to tell everybody (that I was gay),” the Livin' La Vida Loca singer said in a candid TV chat with Oprah Winfrey.
"He told me, 'We shouldn't do that. I think your mission in life is very clear; you move masses of people and I cannot be a burden to that. If something goes wrong between us, you're gonna blame me.' These were very beautiful words. Maybe he wasn't in love with me as I was with him, but I understood: 'OK, you don't wanna be with me anymore'," he added.
Martin finally confirmed decade-long rumours that he was gay in March this year, and in his new memoir ‘Me'.
