Los Angeles, Feb 24: Muppets Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are no strangers to Hollywood's big show - having made a total of five Oscar appearances between them.
On Sunday, they'll be back, presenting at the 84th annual Academy Awards.
“They should just rename the Academy Awards ‘The Miss Piggy Awards,'” said Piggy herself. “I am so excited for the evening. I am going to be wearing a beautiful dress. I am not sure who I will be wearing yet, I have a couple of dresses in mind. It is going to be beautiful, and I am going to be wearing Fred Leighton Jewels.”
On second thought, “To tell the truth, I don't really know why I love the Academy Awards,” she continued. “I mean, what have they ever done for moi?”
No, neither she nor Kermit have ever been nominated. But the song from their latest film, “The Muppet” is up this year, against just one competitor, from the ‘toon, “Rio.”
“It is kind of 50-50,” said Kermit. “You can put it on red, you can put it on black, you know? Then you spin the wheel and see what happens. No, we are up against a really terrific song from ‘Rio.' But, I like ‘Man or a Muppet?' Bret McKenzie, who wrote the thing, is a wonderful guy, so I am certainly rooting for him.”
As for Oscar morning? Kermit said it'll be a long one. “Very long day,” he grumbled.
Added Piggy, “Well, I have a team of make-up artists, and I have a hair stylist and people who help me get dressed. I usually take about eight hours to get ready. I don't really need all that time, I just like to keep people waiting.”
