New York, May 27: It's the sweet smell of success for Fergie. The Black Eyed Peas singer was honored Wednesday (25 May) in New York by The Fragrance Foundation for her perfume, Outspoken.

“It feels amazing! It feels spectacular. I'm so glad the sun is out. It's a beautiful day in New York City. I'm so happy to be here. I got in the car and I felt like Carrie Bradshaw. I mean it's just a whirlwind right now,” she said on the red carpet before the event.

Fergie was presented with The New Fragrance Celebrity of the Year Award during the gala at the Lincoln Center.

“A lot of work went into the fragrance,” she explained. “We were doing it for two years straight and I had to keep my big mouth shut which is ironic because I named it ‘Outspoken.' So we did a lot of work.

“They would give me candles to take home and I would put them in different rooms of the house. Twenty minutes late you walk in and the essence is in there. Just little details and nit-picking. And they were very good collaborators, just wonderful. I had a great Avon team.

“And it was wonderful, especially also with the packaging and the bottle. Every last detail is important to me. Just like creating music, just like anything that I do.”

So what does the singer love about her actor hubby Josh Duhamel's scent?

“Everything,” she says with a coy smile. “I love the way he smells. It's very unique and everyone has their own smell and his belongs to me.”

Halle Berry, whose perfumes include Reveal and Halle by Halle Berry, was honored at the 39th annual event as Fragrance Celebrity of the Year.

Mary J. Blige and her fragrance line were nominated for four FiFi awards.

“I think that I put my heart into it, my life, my soul, my day to day, you know, everyday into this fragrance thinking about how I wanted it to make women feel good and special and powerful but also let them know that, give them a sense of being a woman you know at the same time,” said Blige.

Other stars in attendance included actress Tiffani Amber Thiessen, who cited her daughter's scent as her favorite smell, and RnB singer Trey Songz, who also kept it in the family.

“My favorite scent, if I had to pick one scent that was my favorite it's probably my grandmother's kitchen cause I know that I'm home when I smell her cooking. But as far as on a woman, right now since we are at the FiFi awards, I'd say Coco Chanel,” he said.

Earlier Wednesday Oprah Winfrey bid farewell to her successful ABC talk show with an emotional final episode. ‘Oprah Show' regular Nate Berkus, who appeared on Tuesday's star-studded surprise finale, also attended the FiFi awards.

“It was unbelievable,” says Berkus of filming the surprise farewell show. “The only thing I can equate it to is the opening of Oprah's leadership academy for girls in South Africa that I went to as well.

“And the thing about that is that everybody in the room was there for the same reason and that was to celebrate, not Oprah, but the show.

“What the show's meant to everybody. And it was just a really incredible, the energy in the room was just ridiculous. I've never felt that before. You felt like you could levitate.” AP
