French actress Catherine Deneuve added a bit of glamour to the red carpet at the Venice film festival on Saturday (Sept 4) when she attended the premiere for her film "Potiche."
The screen icon was joined on the carpet by the films director Francois Ozon. Set in the 1977 Northern France, Deneuve plays a bored housewife to a sexist umbrella factory owner. When he is taken hostage by revolting workers she must step in to keep the factory up and running. However her business manner proves to be the opposite of her husbands and much more of a hit with the workers.
The film looks at social issues of a woman's place in society as well as ageism in the workplace. Gerard Depardieu plays the old flame who still has feelings for Deneuve's character.
"Potiche" is showing in competition at the Venice film festival, where the winner of the Golden Lion award will be announced on the 11 September. AP
