Sushant Case Updates: NCB issues statement; bail plea adjourned till tomorrow

Upcoming Bollywood actress Payal Ghosh, who says she worked out in the same gym with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput for almost four years, recalls the latter as a shy and lighthearted person. Payal also raises doubts over the theory that Sushant had committed suicide.

"I have seen his prescription on TV, the kind of medicines he was having. These are basic medicines given for panic and anxiety attacks. A person having panic attacks goes through a fear of death. I can say this from personal experience because I have battled this condition. How can a person having fear of death commit suicide? His death is still a mystery to me," Payal told IANS.

"I also find it difficult to believe that a person like him was battling depression in his last days. In fact, when I watched television flashing the news of his suicide, I could not believe it at first, thinking it was fake news," the actress added.

Actress Rhea Chakraborty has claimed in her bail application that she was coerced into making self-incriminatory confessions during custody. A day after Rhea's arrest by the Narcotics Central Bureau (NCB), it has been revealed that a special court here will hear the bail applications of the actress and her brother Showik on September 10.

Rhea, who was Sushant Singh Rajput's girlfriend, was arrested on Tuesday by the NCB after being has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for her alleged role in the drugs angle that has emerged during investigation into the June 14 death of Sushant.

Hearing in the bail applications of #RheaChakraborty and her brother Showik to be held on 10th September at Special Court, Mumbai: Satish Maneshinde, Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer.

Rhea's brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant's house manager Samuel Miranda, and other drug peddlers includng Zaid Vilatra and Basit Parihar have been sent to 14-day judicial custody till September 23.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap stated that he did not work with Sushant Singh Rajput due to his own reasons. Sharing a couple of WhatsApp chats with the late actor's manager, Kashyap revealed that he asked about the well being of his family and also shared the reason for not working with the Kai Po Che actor.

Rhea Chakraborty has been taken to Byculla Jail by NCB officials

Showik Chakraborty and Samuel Miranda are taken for medical tests after which they will appear before the court through video conferencing. NCB will demand to extend the custody to the two for interrogation.

The jail opens after 9 am according to the jail manual. Today, Rhea will be taken to Byculla Women's Jail because the lockup in which the actress is now is NCB's safe lockup where interrogation takes place. Now the time to go from NCB office Ballard Pier to Byculla Jail is about 30 minutes in view of morning traffic and signal. Rhea is expected to be removed from NCB Safe Lockup between 9:30 and 10:30 am.

Rhea's lawyer will challenge the order of the Metropolitan Magistrate in the Sessions Court and will file a bail petition today. This bail plea will be heard in the afternoon and if bail is granted, it may take up to 2 hours after the minimum order is received to take the copy of the court order to the jail authority and complete the legal proceedings according to the jail manual.

This means that Rhea may be out of jail by evening and can go from Byculla jail to her Juhu house before 5 pm. If this entire process is not done before 5, then today Rhea will spend her night in Byculla Jail.

According to information received from NCB sources, Rhea had cried when the bail was rejected, as she had full expectations that bail would be granted. She did not expect that she would have to spend the night the NCB lockup.

After Rhea Chakraborty's arrest, her father Indrajit took to twitter and wrote, "No father can bear injustice on his daughter. I shoukd die"

Sushant Singh Rajput's sister Shweta Singh Kirti opposed the trend started by Bollywood celebrities in support of Rhea Chakraborty which had the quote from her tshirt she was seen wearing on Tuesday during the arrest. Shweta tweeted, "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Let's fight for the right, Me and You." In another tweet, she wrote, "Dead can’t speak so blame it on the dead! Shame!! #WorldUnitedForSSRJustice"

After Rhea Chakraborty's arrest, many Bollywood celebrities came out in support of her and stated that she is not proven guilty of murder in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. They shared the quote written on Rhea's tshirt when she came for interrogation to the NCB office on Tuesday. The quote read, "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Let's smash the patriarchy, Me and You."

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday arrested Charaborty, but later declined to take her into its own custody and instead sought 14-day judicial custody, which was granted. The NCB made the sensational arrest shortly after 3.30 pm as part of its probe to unravel the drugs nexus in the film industry, capping three days of tough grilling and intense speculation.

Rhea was charged under NDPS Act Sections 8(C), 20(b)(ii), 22, 27A, 28 and 29, for her alleged role in the drugs angle which has emerged in the investigations into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, said NCB Deputy Director M.A. Jain.
