Indra Kumar's madcap Total Dhamaal, starring Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Esha Gupta, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Sanjay Mishra, Riteish Deshmukh and others has set the box office on fire. In just three days, the adventure-comedy has minted over Rs 60 crore. After opening to Rs 16.50 crore, its numbers swiftly multiplied to make Rs 62.40 crore in three days. Now, the litmus test is here, hence, this multi-starrer needs to maintain the same pace to sail through weekdays.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share latest figures of Total Dhamaal. ''#TotalDhamaal hits the ball out of the park... Swims past ₹ 60 cr... Word of mouth came into play on Day 1 itself... Terrific in mass circuits... Big growth at metros/plexes [Day 2 and 3]... Fri 16.50 cr, Sat 20.40 cr, Sun 25.50 cr. Total: ₹ 62.40 cr. India biz,'' he wrote.
Though the film has been panned by the critics, it is making good numbers. Total Dhamaal is about a bunch of greedy goofballs who want to make their fortune with Rs 50 crore bounty. They kick-start an adventurous journey only to be pitted against zoo animals. There is situational comedy and also, pairing of Madhuri and Anil as a bonus.
Madhuri and Anil have earlier teamed up with Kumar for his 1992 hit Beta. Talking about collaborating with Madhuri once again, Anil said: "We've teamed up in so many movies that we could tell each other's responses on camera without any discussion. I am very comfortable working with Madhuri''.
Total Dhamaal was recently in news after Lata Mangeshkar reportedly slammed recreated songs. The Indra Kumar directorial has two reprised songs- Paisa Yeh Paisa from Karz and Mungda from 1978 film Inkaar. This has reportedly upset the original makers of Mungda. Responding to this, Devgn said he is ready to apologise if the iconic singer has felt bad. He went on to say that she can even slap them.
The story of the film doesn't bring anything new on the table and rather follows the same notes of Dhamaal. Similar to its first edition, Total Dhamaal has five pairs of cartoonish characters - conmen Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Mishra, a Gujju-Marathi couple played by Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, two firemen Riteish Deshmukh and Pitobash, fun jodi of Adi-Maanav played by Arshad Warsi and Javed Jafferi respectively, and police commissioner Boman Irani with inspector Vijay Patkar.
All these five pairs are on a run to find the hidden secret treasure of Rs. 50 crore in a zoo in a place called Janakpur. The film tries to bring out humour in the life-threatening situations for these characters.
