As Pulwama tragedy unfolded in Jammu & Kashmir, many Bollywood celebrities expressed their opinions on the dastardly attacks. It left them divided with some asking for revenge while others asking to settle matter with peace. Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam shared a video on his Facebook page and asked the citizens why they are mourning the death of the soldiers who were slain in the attack.

He said, “Arre, 44 ho ya 440, aap log kyun dukh mana rahe ho itna? Isme dukh wali kya baat hai itni? Aap toh woh kariye jo iss desh mein sahi hai, jo secular log karte hai.”

He continued saying, “Inn baaton mein dukh manana chhod dijiye RSS pe, BJP pe, Hindutvavaadi, so-called rashtravaadi sansthaon pe. Aap toh woh kijiye jo yahaan par secular log karte hai. 'Bharat tere tukde honge', 'Afzal hum sharminda hai'. Shabaash! Agar India mein rehna hai, toh iss tarah ki secular soch aapki honi chahiye.”

According to Sonu Nigam, saying Vande Mataram or Jai Hindi in India is not acceptable in secular India. Talking about it, he said, “Vande Mataram bilkul mat bolna. Yahaan pe woh sab bolna wrong hai. Aur yeh dukh mat manaiye aap. CRPF ke log the, isme bohot badi baat toh nahi hai, hai na? Chaliye, milte hai. Namaste bhi yahaan nahi bolna. Lal salaam!"

Previously, Sonu Nigam courted controversy for his remarks on loudspeakers played during Azaan. His tweets created a stir among the people who slammed the singer for targeting only one religion while the other religious communities also use loudspeakers for their prayers.
