Popular Tamil actress Priyanka, who was well-known for her role of Jothika in serial Vamsam, committed suicide on Wednesday morning in her residence in Valasaravakam, Chennai by hanging herself from a fan. The actress was seen in many Tamil serials and was much loved by the audience. A case has been filed with the Chennai Police.
According to reports in India Today, the actor decided to take this extreme step due to familial issues. Priyanka had tied the knot with Arunbala in 2015 but, the couple was living separately for the past two months due to the difference of opinion. Priyanka was yet to conceive and this might be the biggest reason of their separation. However, nothing is confirmed yet. Priyanka’s body has been sent for post-mortem and investigation is on to find out why she took such an extreme step.
Priyanka was best known for her Tamil serial Vamsam that had actor Ramya Krishnan in the lead. The show ran for successful four years from 2013-2017. Other than Vamsam, the actress was also part of several other Tamil serials such as Apoorva Ragangal, Bairavi, on Sun TV and across different channels.
Tamil television industry is going through a tragic phase right now as many cases are heard of South Indian stars committing suicide. The News Minute reports that in 2016, TV actor Sai Prashanth was found dead at his residence by consuming poison. He even left a suicide note behind. Another television actor Sai Prashanth committed suicide after struggling with depression in 2017. Recent case being Telugu news anchor Radhika Reddy who also committed suicide a couple of months ago.
