Other than Sacred Games season 2, fans can’t wait to see Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan in Ajay Devgn’s period drama Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior. It is said that Saif will be seen in a negative role in the film and his character has a strong presence in the film. The actor has already wooed the audience with his stellar performance in the web series Sacred Games and is gearing up for another Bollywood film Naga Sadhu. While fans are eagerly waiting to see Saif Ali Khan grace the big screen again, the actor has lent out interesting details about his character from Ajay Devgn’s film.
Saif Ali Khan in an interview with Mid-Day revealed, "My character is the antagonist. But he just happens to be on the wrong side." This is not the first time that the actor will play the grey shade but in Omkara as well, Saif Ali Khan was seen doing the role of antagonist as Langda Tyagi. Talking about the preparations he is doing for the role, Saif said, "Since it is an action-packed film, I was required to look leaner. I had to be adept in horse riding. The fact that I was coming straight off Navdeep's (director Navdeep Singh) film made it tad easier. The physical prep has been rigorous for this film." He also added, "After Sacred Games, I have been transported to a different era with this film.”
Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, directed by Om Raut, is the most-awaited period drama and will hit the theaters later this year. As Saif Ali Khan steps into the shoes of the antagonist in the film, Ajay Devgn will be seen playing the role of Taanaji who fought with Chatrapati Shivaji and was the military leader in the army of Shivaji. Earlier, a source opened up to Deccan Chronicle by saying, "It took Saif a long time to agree to be a supporting actor. After Kal Ho Naa Ho, he had vowed to never do a two-hero film in which he would have a weaker role. But Ajay has personally assured him that he will have a strong author-backed role."
Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior will be his fourth collaboration with actor Ajay Devgan. They have previously worked together in Kachche Dhaage (1999), Omkara (2006) and LOC Kargil (2003). Their last film together, Omkara, was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated play Othello, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
Talking about the film, Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior recounts the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, which was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, and Udaybhan. The former sacrificed his life to recapture Sinhagad Fort from the Moghuls.
