It seems like Karan Johar has made up his mind to make controversies with everything he does and say. After his talk show Koffee With Karan made some headlines, KJo again ruffled some feathers with his recent statements. While talking to HuffPost, Karan Johar explained the reason why he chose to kill off Anushka Sharma’s character in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. According to him, Alizeh died because she rejected Ayan’s love in the film.

He said, “He loved her so crazily. She could’ve loved him back, why couldn’t she? So she got cancer and she died.” Really Karan?

After his statement, people on social media took off, they started trolling Karan Johar for his 'absurd' comments. He was also pulled down to joke about the stark reality about how jilted lovers kill, rape, or even throw acids at the women who reject them.

Soon, people started lashing him for his regressive statement. One user wrote, “Karan Johar saying he killed off Alizeh in ADHM because she didn’t love Ayan and chalking it off as karma is disgusting because we still live in a day and age where women are constantly attacked or killed for not reciprocating feelings and we are NOT going to romanticize that.”

Karan Johar’s remarks have raised a concern how stalking and sexual harassment has been normalised in our culture through films.

However, this type of one-sided romanticism and love is not something new in Bollywood. Many films including Darr, Anjaam, Tere Naam and others have normalised this kind of behaviour by jilted lovers. Karan Johar’s statement is just a reflection of state of affairs in our society.
