Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to play Balasaheb Thackeray in the biopic titled Thackeray. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was present at the trailer launch of the film, was all praises for the late Indian politician. Big B, who was invited as the chief guest of the event, spoke about how Balasaheb Thackeray helped him in his difficult times.
When the Thugs of Hindostan actor was injured on the sets of Coolie in Bengaluru, way back in 1982, he was brought to Mumbai in a critical state. But the stormy weather in the city had made it nearly impossible to find an ambulance. It was then that Bal Thackeray ensured that a Shiv Sena ambulance was made available for the injured superstar.
Recalling the incident at the teaser launch of Thackeray, Bachchan said that if it wasn't for Balasaheb, he wouldn't have been alive today. “Balasaheb helped me when I needed it most. If it had not been for him, I would not have been alive today. We were very close to each other. I respect him a lot.”
In the biopic of Thackeray, Siddiqui is playing the role of founder of Shiv Sena in the film directed by Abhijit Panse. Not only did Nawazuddin Siddiqui stepped into the shoes of the political leader, but also adapted to his body language and personality well. Actress Amrita Rao is playing his wife Meena Tai Thackeray in the film.
Directed by Abhijit Panse and written and produced by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, the film is slated to release on January 25. The film will face the box office battle with Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi,.
