It was not until Imtiaz Ali's 2014 film Highway that audience came to know about acting prowess of Alia Bhatt. The actress, who began her Bollywood career with a glamorous role of Shanaya in Karan Johar 2012 film Student of The Year was not taken seriously back then. Many thought she is just another product of nepotism who will fade away with time but Alia was confident that she's here to stay. Hence, she surprised everyone by choosing a role which belonged to a completely different hemisphere.
The petite actress played Delhi-based Veera Tripathi in the film, which also featured Randeep Hooda in a lead role. Alia and Randeep's characters belonged to two different worlds but despite their contrasting backgrounds, they find a deep connection within each other.
As Highway clocked five years, Alia took to Twitter to cherish the memories of shooting and thank all her fans. Sharing a collage, she wrote, ''It’s #5YearsOfHighway today. The film & its memories remain close to my heart! Thank you for giving Veera all your love! And let’s welcome @WeAreWSF on their digital journey!''
Randeep Hooda, too, celebrated the five years of Highway on Twitter. Calling the character of Mahabir an important and special role, he said, ''Mahabir was a special character to play, to live, in an incredibly important story to be a part of! Celebrating #5YearsOfHighway by welcoming @WeAreWSF on their digital journey!”
The highly acclaimed Highway was an average performer at the box office. The music of the film is still loved and continues to be on the playlist. AR Rahman created some soothing melodies which will always have a special place in the hearts of music lovers.
On a related note, Alia is currently basking in the success of Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy. Last year, Alia got rave reviews for her performance in Meghna Gulzar's Raazi.
