New Delhi, Sep 8: Filmmaking not acting was Ajay Devgn's dream when he shot to fame with “Phool Aur Kaante” at the age of 19 in 1991.

The national award-winning actor says his passion was to make films and he also shot for documentaries in college until his father Veeru Devgn, a stunt and action choreographer, forced him to take up the film.

“I always wanted to make films and not act. I was 19 and enjoying college life when my father's friend offered me a film. I was not at all ready but a month later I was shooting for it.

“The whole while I was not interested in the film and thought if it works good otherwise I will go back to making films.

But I was lucky that the film worked and I got many more offers,” said Devgn who was in the capital attending the India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit 2012.

The 43-year-old is more famous for his acting than directorial skills with ‘U, Me Aur Hum', his debut movie as a director, garnering only moderate success at the box office.

Devgn, who is equally at home with off-beat and commercial potboilers, has earned a name for himself with films like ‘Zakhm', ‘Legends of Bhagat Singh', ‘Apaharan', ‘Singham', ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' and ‘Bol Bachchan'.

The actor said that he has never felt the need to make people take notice of him despite facing lows at times.

“I believe works speaks for itself and to be famous you don't need to shout out loud.

There are two kinds of actors in this industry one who seek attention and other who let people talk about their work. I have had my three movies in the 100 crore club then why do I need to to scream to let people know about me?,” he added.

Devng also says that he wants to do clean family entertainers and doing 2011 adult comedy ‘Rascals' was his biggest mistake.

“I regret doing ‘Rascals', that is probably the only vulgar film I have ever done and after the movie released I realised I shouldn't have done it. I want to do only clean family films and will never do a film like that again,” Devgn said.
