Bangalore, Jun 9: Bollywood's legendary singer Manna Dey is in a critical condition with chest infection in a Bangalore hospital.
He was admitted to hospital on Saturday, as the chest infection has led to other complications in his body organs.
Manna Day, 94, was being treated by doctors at his home in Kalyan Nagar here, but was shifted to hospital when his condition deteriorated.
The singer celebrated his birthday on May 1, and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had visited him to present the Vishesh Maha Sangeet Samman on behalf of the state government.
Manna Dey is his nickname, and his real name is Prabodh Chandra Dey. A versatile singer, he was conferred the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke award by the government of India.
Manna Dey has recorded over 3,500 songs in his career in different Indian languages. He was once considered the best classical singer in Bollywood film industry, rivalling Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh.
