Mumbai, Oct 13 : TV is no longer giving viewers memorable characters like it used to, says actor Samir Soni. So, it is important for actors to be loyal to their roles and for viewers to speak out against senseless storylines, he adds.
"I keep trying (to ask for changes) because I don't like to fool the audience. If you look into history, we have had shows like 'Hum Log', 'Nukkad', 'Khandaan', people still remember Basesar, Nanhe.
They remember characters," the 44-year-old said on the sets of daily soap "Parichay Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka" here Friday.
"These days, shows run for six or nine months, and in the twists and turns, you forget the name of the characters. This loyalty towards characters is important and I fight for it daily. Ekta (Kapoor) is fed up with me. But I can't help it," said Samir, who plays the character named Kunal in the serial.
Samir wants the audience to send their feedback which can help dispel notions that TV serials are senseless dramas.
"Please give your feedback. Tell the channel what you want because people believe that a daily show can show anything. You go from here to there suddenly. Faces change. Wake up in the morning and 20 years have passed and even the clothes do not change. Anything happens. The mother looks younger than the daughter. Everything. Because people think no one is bothered," Samir said.
On the big screen, Samir has worked in "China Gate", "Lajja", "Baghban", "Vivaah", "Fashion" and "I Hate Luv Storys".
