After being postponed for a number of times, finally, Karan Johar has released the first teaser of his period drama Takht. Announcing the release date, KJo in his tweet wrote that the movie will go on floors in March and will release on December 24, 2021. Takht has an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Janhvi Kapoor.

With Takht, Karan Johar is returning to direction after his 2016 Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. This is KJo's first attempt to make a period drama. The movie traces the relationship between Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and his brother Dara Shukoh. It is being reported that Ranveer Singh will play Dara Shukoh while Vicky Kaushal will essay his younger brother Aurangzeb. Anil Kapoor will be seen as Shahjahan in the film.

Hussain Haidry has penned the dialogues for the film.

Speaking about Takht, Karan Johar had reveal that Ranveer Singh was the first whom he narrated as he desperately wanted him in the film. ''There would be a huge part in my heart which would’ve been crushed if for some reason you would’ve declined the offer because I had you in mind for Takht always,'' KJo has told Ranveer.

Talking about his character in Takht, Anil Kapoor has earlier told PTI that it is mixed emotions for him. "I am slowly getting into it. I'll be able tell you what my headspace would be close to the filming. But at the moment it's a mixed emotion. Excited, worried, apprehensive, confident. It takes time to get... Your character builds slowly. So I'm processing that now," he said.

Kareena, who will be playing a historical character for the first time has earlier revealed that she has to undergo dialect training for the magnum opus. "It's a different film because I've not really done a period film like this. There will be a certain amount of dialect preparation, look tests that will happen. I'm also working with Karan after a very long time so I'm very excited," Kareena has told PTI.
