Taapsee Pannu is back with another gem of a film -- 'Thappad'. The film is her second collaboration with Anubhav Sinha, who earlier directed her in 'Mulk'. And like 'Mulk', 'Thappad' is the showreel of what Taapsee can do as an actor. The movie centres on chauvinism, misogyny and violence in a relationship.
"#Thappad Haan bas EK THAPPAD..... par nahi maar sakta! #ThappadTrailer," Taapsee captioned the trailer on her social media accounts.
At the start, the trailer shows a regular lovey dovey couple who in the aftermath of a setback, gets into an argument and the husband slaps the wife. Just one slap, but why and how can a husband hit a wife in front of so many people...? The question and the answer form the crux of the narrative.
"Kya yeh bas itni si baat hai? Kya pyaar mein ye bhi jayaz hai? Yeh #Thappad Ki pehli Jhalak hai!" Taapsee wrote when she shared the poster on Thursday.
Taapsee had earlier said: "Working with Anubhav sir is always an enriching experience and he encourages one to push the envelope. When he discussed 'Thappad', I immediately decided this was a film I had to do. It has a thought-provoking storyline and deals with a subject which must be addressed in our society. To put it in perspective, looking at what we aim to convey with our film, I can say 'Thappad' is this year's 'Pink'."
'Thappad' has been shot in Delhi and Lucknow. Apart from Taapsee, the film features Dia Mirza, Manav Kaul, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ram Kapoor and Tanvi Azmi in pivotal roles. It will hit the theatres on February 28.
