Legendary actress Suchitra Sen, who have given some memorable performances in Hindi and Bengali cinema has finally bid adieu to her fans. Suchitra, 82, was undergoing treatment at a nursing home in Kolkata for serious respiratory problems, was again put on non-invasive ventilation after her condition deteriorated Thursday night, doctors said.Suchitra Sen whose first film to hit the screen was Bengali movie 'Sharey Chuattor', is known for her performances in films like 'Deep Jwele Jaai' and 'Uttar Falguni' in the same language as well as Hindi movies 'Devdas', 'Bombai Ka Babu' and 'Mamta'.She was born in Pabna, Bangladesh to Karunamoy Dasgupta and Indira Devi. Suchitra married Dibanath Sen in 1947 and had one daughter, Moon Moon Sen.After marriage in 1952, she made a career in Bengali films and then moved to Bollywood film industry. According to reports, her marriage was in trouble by her success in the film industry.Suchitra's debut film Shesh Kothaay was never released. Then in the same year she worked opposite Uttam Kumar in Sharey Chuattor, a film by Nirmal Dey. Suchitra and Uttam Kumar's pair had become quite popular, which made her one of the most sought after Bengali actress. Her films did really well during 1960s and the 1970s. Even after her husband's death, she continued to work in films. In 1974, Suchitra won Filmfare Award nomination as Best Actress for her Hindi film Aandhi, in which she played the role of a politician. Her co-star Sanjeev Kumar, who playe her husband in the film won won the Filmfare as Best Actor. The film was inspired by the life of India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.In 1959, Suchitra gave one of her most memorable performances in Deep Jwele Jaai. Suchitra's other landmark film with Asit Sen was Uttar Falguni in 1963. In the same year she got international success with her performance in the movie Saat Paake Bandha. And won, the Best Actress Award in Moscow Film Festival.In 1978, Suchitra Sen bid adieu to acting and post her retirement she had been living a reclusive life and only meets her daughter, actress Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Rima and Riya Sen.
