Mumbai, Apr 10 : Singer Mika Singh was named a suspect in a hitand-run case on Saturday morning after a Hummer allegedly driven by him knocked down an autorickshaw and rammed into a bus stop near Darshan Field Club on JP Road, Versova.
A passenger in the damaged auto, identified by cops as Rajshri Anant Aangane, suffered serious injuries and was operated upon at Cooper Hospital, reports Mumbai Mirror.
While Mika Singh has denied he was driving the Hummer (MH-02/HA), which was found abandoned near Movie Tower in Millat Nagar, D N Nagar police said they have eye-witnesses, including two cops, who saw Mika running away from the spot after abandoning the car.
"We will call Mika Singh for questioning as there are several eye witnesses who have confirmed that he was driving the vehicle," Senior Inspector V D Bhoite of D N Nagar police station said.
The black Hummer, according to eye-witnesses, was swerving dangerously as it approached the Darshan Field Club. It first hit the auto-rickshaw being driven on the wrong side of the road and then rammed into a bus stop. Even as the car's front right wheel came off, the driver sped off towards Versova. Two cops, who were on a patrol, have told D N Nagar police that they saw Mika getting off the car and run away.
The damaged auto's driver, Gyan Bahadur Chavan, 28, who helped injured passenger Rajashri Aangane out of the damaged vehicle and took her to Cooper Hospital, said he saw Mika at the Hummer's wheel. "I saw his face. It was singer Mika Singh. Before I could get out of the auto and help the injured passenger, he sped away," Chavan said.
The car's registered in businessman Nitin Shenoi's name. Shenoi owns Elixir Gym in Oakland Park building, a small distance away from where the Hummer was abandoned. Sources said Mika, who lives a couple of blocks away at Shastrinagar in Lokhandwala, trains at Elixir gym.
When cops contacted Shinoy, he said he was in Shirdi and would give his statement on his return from the pilgrimage. Repeated calls to Mika Singh did not elicit any response. His public relations representative said Mika was not driving the Hummer involved in the accident.
The PR representative said that Mika does own a Hummer, but the car is parked at his residence in Delhi. The police have now sought an authorised Hummer dealer's help to unlock the car. An inspection of the car's cabin could throw up clues about who was driving it.
