New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie ‘Dilwale' has performed tremendously well at the international box office raking in Rs 365 crore worldwide. The success has also propelled Dilwale as the second highest Bollywood grosser in 2015.
‘Dilwale' comes second only to Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan which made Rs 630 crore worldwide. However, to SRK's relief, ‘Dilwale' beat Salman's second release of 2015 Prem Ratan Dhan Payo with the latter earning Rs 362 crore.
If one factors in S.S. Rajamouli's regional film Baahubali, then ‘Dilwale' would slip down to the third position as the former earned Rs 600 crore worldwide.
In Singapore, Dilwale has become the only Bollywood movie to cross the $1 million mark. It is also the highest grosser in South Africa, Netherlands, Malaysia, West Indies & Jordan.
Dilwale is also the second highest collecting film of all time in overseas markets such as UAE –GCC (which also had the highest opening weekend for any Bollywood film), Peru, Kuwait, Indonesia, Egypt and Morocco. Some other countries that saw Dilwale top the charts for the highest opening weekend for a Bollywood film include Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Pakistan.
Pakistan & Australia saw trends of a different kind, where Dilwale became the third film ever to cross USD 2 million and the first ever SRK film to cross AUD 1 million, respectively.
In UK, which is one of the biggest overseas markets for Bollywood films, it had unbelievable collections upwards of GBP 1 million in just five days. It was the fourth SRK film to cross GBP 2 million. Only seven films have this feat to their credit.
Dilwale's collections are a proof of King Khan's stronghold in the overseas market. With good collections, Dilwale has become the highest grossing SRK movie. According to statistics, only 16 films so far have crossed $10 million overseas. SRK has nine of these films to his name.
The Rohit Shetty-directorial starred SRK, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Boman Irani among others. In India, the romantic drama earned Rs 140 crore at the box office, which is quite disappointing for an SRK starrer.
