New Delhi: The Bombay High Court, today acquitted Bollywood superstar Salman Khan of all charges in the hit and run case of 2002. Salman took to Twitter to express his joy pointing in the direction that he welcomes the decision of the court whole heartedly.
After 13 years, the verdict has finally pronounced Salman innocent. The accident which happened in the early hours of September 28th, 2002 killed one person and injured four others when Salman's land cruiser ran over a pavement in Bandra.
Following this, Khan was charged with culpable homicide.
In a major relief for Salman, the Bombay High Court set aside the five years jail term by sessions court and acquitted him of all the charges, holding that the prosecution had failed to prove he was driving the vehicle after having consumed alcohol.
While millions of his fans are happy about the verdict, Salman ensured he thanked them for their support.
On his way to his residence in Galaxy apartments from the Bombay High Court, Salman tweeted; “I accept the decision of the judiciary with humility. I thank my family, friends & fans for their support & prayers”
Setting aside Salman's conviction, Justice A R Joshi said in the jam-packed courtroom, "The appeal is allowed. The trial court's verdict is quashed and set aside... Salman is acquitted of all the charges."
Salman was seen walking out of the courtroom with his sister Alvir Agnihotri, brother in law Aayush Sharma and bodyguard Shera.
