Mumbai, May 21: A domestic servant was arrested in connection with the theft of three diamond studded gold rings and a wrist watch collectively worth Rs 5 lakh at the residence of Pakistani singer and Bollywood actor Salma Agha in suburban Andheri, police said today.
The 49-year-old popular singer from Pakistan had complained on Thursday about the theft of valuables following which her domestic servant was held, Sambhaji Shirke, Sub Inspector at Oshiwara police station told PTI.
According to police, Salma had gone to attend a wedding of her friend near Sahar Airport last Sunday and returned to her bungalow "Dhara Villa" home at night.
She had kept three diamond studded gold rings and a watch in a drawer and after two days, she found her valuables were missing, police said.
"The actor lodged a complaint with us on Thursday stating that she and her 12-year-old son Ali Khan stay in the house and her housemaid Chandrakala Bhalerao, who was working at her house for 20 days, was the only visitor to the bungalow," said Shirke.
Subsequently, Chandrakala was picked up for questioning from her residence at Adarshnagar and was arrested for stealing the valuables, Shirke said adding that no valuables were recovered from the accused.
The actress, who sang as well as acted in Indian films in the 1980s and early 1990s, had won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in 1982 for the ghazal "Dil ke Armaan" in Nikaah. PTI
