Three days after his arrest, the killer's lack of motive and his continued denial has left the police baffled in the Rinki Chaudhary murder case.

Till yesterday's questioning, Sahil Malik, the main accused, stuck to his original account that he was painting the apartment wall when his girlfriend Rinki committed suicide in the kitchen, reports MidDay.

However, the police's take on the incident indicates that Malik allegedly strangled her to death and then hanged her to the fan to fake suicide.

The police are also unclear about Malik's motive behind the murder, which is an important part in establishing a murder case.

However, police say that they have enough evidence to prove Malik's guilt. Forensic experts who examined the flat did not find any damage to the fan where the victim was hanged.

Malik had also claimed that Rinki used a stool to reach the noose. But the cops on the scene spotted a pile of belongings lying on the stool.

Finally, in a hanging case, the ligature mark on the neck appears in a V-shape but Rinki had a round mark
on her neck, indicating strangulation.

Meanwhile, the police has sent a team to Rajasthan to nab Malik's accomplice, Shivam, who had been absconding after the murder came to light. They are confident that his arrest will throw more light on the case.
In a possible attempt to mislead investigators, Malik had also brought up his ex-girlfriend, Shyamli Jain's name in the case.

In his statement, he accused Jain of calling and harassing Rinki to stay away from Malik. Jain, who has been summoned to Mumbai for questioning, however, refuted his accusations.

She confessed to calling Rinki but said that she never threatened Rinki and denied any feelings for Malik after their break-up two years ago.

According to Jain, she had called Rinki only to seek her help in finding work in the industry. Senior police inspector Surendra Paitankar said, "We have summoned Jain.

She is from Mumbai, but had gone to Delhi to visit her mother. We don't see her involvement as she was the one who left Malik. The accused is only cooking up this story to get himself out of the case."
