But, now the actor seems to be back on the hit-track with recently released Tamasha.
Starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in lead roles, the movie has collected Rs 38.3 crores within three days of it release.
Deepika and Ranbir's 'Tamasha' collects Rs 24 crores in two days
According to a statement by the film's makers, the opening day collection of the movie amounted to Rs.10.87 crore while it collected Rs.13.17 crore on day two -- taking the two-day business to Rs.24.04 crore. On Sunday the movie clocked revenue Rs 14.12 cr.
The success of the film has come as a respite for the actor who was in a desperate need of it.
Ranbir Kapoor made a stunning debut in tinsel town with ‘Saawariya' in 2007. He shone like a star in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial despite it being a dud at the box office.
He rose to overnight stardom and became the guy whom every girl dreamt of and swoon over.
After that, Ranbir established himself as a versatile actor by portraying different and complex roles. From Bachna Ae Haseeno to Wake up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani to Rajniti, the industry saw various colours of Ranbir's persona.
His ‘Rockstar', ‘Barfi!' and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' stunned his critics and impressed his fans. And Ranbir was on the verge of becoming the next superstar of B-town but the luck went south.

Though, it didn't affect his stardom but surely raised questions about his ability and acting skills. The hard work going in vain increased the pressure on the actor as well.
But it seems ex-flame Deepika Padukone was destined to bring good luck for Ranbir Kapoor with ‘Tamasha'. The movie is doing decent business at the box office and RK-DP's chemistry is much liked by the audiences.
Finally, it's something to cherish and celebrate for Ranbir Kapoor.
Now everyone can agree on the fact that there is something about Ranbir that entices the audiences and weaves magic on the silver screen.
