Remembering the original superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna

New Delhi: The evergreen actor Rajesh Khanna is not among us today but his memories will continue to stay forever. The actor left the world mourning on July 18, 2012. In fact we could say Rajesh Khanna's departure was one of the big losses for the industry and there is hardly any one who could compensate this loss.As the world remembers him on his 70th Birthday(Dec 29), we would like to reveal some facts about Kaka, which every admirer would love to know.As a struggling actor, Rajesh Khanna drove himself to work and back in his own MG sports car.‘Mr. India' directed by Shekhar Kapur was first offered to Rajesh Khanna, but the actor refused to work in it, because he couldn't relate to the invisible hero. Finally the role went to Anil Kapoor and the flick proved to be a hit at the box office.The "guru kurta" he made famous was originally the garment of choice of farmers and small time politicians.Rajesh Khanna made his debut with Aakhri Khat in 1967. The flick was India's official Oscar entry in 1967 but it didn't made it to the final five.Before Kaka married Dimple Kapadia, he bought a lavish bungalow called Dimple from actor Rajendra Kumar and renamed it Aashirwad. The house had proved unlucky for Rajendra Kumar, but Rajesh Khanna delivered 15 hits in a row, which is still an unbroken record.Even though Rajesh Khanna had a 100% success rate with actress Mumtaz, delivering eight blockbuster films with her, Hema Malini was his another co-star with whom he worked in most number of flicks. They appeared in about 15 films together.He was also the playback singer in 7 films which includes Safar, Amar Prem and Sautan.The song Roop Tera Mastana from Aradhana starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore made history in Bollywood as it was shot in a single take.From 1970-79 Rajesh Khanna was the highest paid actor and thereafter in 1980-87 he shared the honour with Big B.Among his friends singer-actor Kishore Kumar and music director RD Burman were his best pals.Before the film industry counted Rajesh Khanna amongst the big superstars, he was called the "faaltu hero" because of his unconventional features. In 2012 he appeared in Havells Fan's TV commercial. This was his first and last TV commercial.
