Phata Poster Nikla Hero movie review: Watch it just for Shahid Kapoor

I'll go with two stars for Phata Poster Nikla Hero which kicks off well but disappoints a big time in the end. However among them Grand Masti went a bit overboard in its attempt to deliver adult comedy but it commercially thrived due to majority of its mass audience.Here we aren't comparing Phata Poster Nikla Hero with them. But the question arises does it satisfy its masses for whom this entertainer is made. Rajkumar Santoshi has been one of the zealous filmmakers and has given numerous genres of flicks. His epic comedy Andaz Apna Apna is loved by the movie buffers even today. Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani did tickle the funny bone.And now he presents us ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero', which is surely one of those masala entertainers with comedy having an upper hand but doesn't have that stem to reap throughout.It all starts with Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) who wants to be a successful actor. But his mom Savitri (Padmini Kolhapure), an auto-rickshaw driver, wants him to be an honest cop. He lies his mom and tells her that he going to give an exam for entrance in Police department under whose disguise he seeks for a role in Mumbai.. Unfortunately he dons a cop uniform and is mistaken to be real cop.Things mess up sooner as he is mistaken to be a real cop. In the midst of all he meets Kajal (Ileana D'Cruz) who too believes he is a cop and follows him sincerely. Such that is the impact that Rao invites a big trouble from a gangster Gundappa (Saurabh Shukla) and things get out of his control thereafter. Now how he gets rid of it that is how Phata Poster Nikla Hero deal with.Rajkumar Santoshi has delivered action and comedy in all the more equal proportionate in his previous two comedy flick. Here he once again puts in both of these elements and let his artists capitalize over it. But unfortunately, even the superb acts by Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D' Cruz can't savor this drowning ship which battles hard in the high tides.You are tempted in the first half which despite of numerous illogical situations delivers few lighthearted moments. We once again have to give credit to Shahid Kapoor who brings smiles on your faces through his cute and funny dialects. Take that one when he runs after Salman Khan's car or that when he gives an audition to a director who is busy getting the lead actress out of the swimming pool.The melodrama too garners a space in the first one hour fifteen minutes. We swallow the dim-witted jokes till here. But the rest of the flick tests your patience. From here Santoshi loses his grip. Wish it had been at worse, the same tired momentum of the first half carried with patience futher this drama would have been a perfect masala entertainer.The flick drags and loses it way in the mid bizarrely. Nor Shahid's kiddish acts neither Saurabh Shukla's mockery is able to kill the boredom which heavily conquers your mind. We would have ignored Ileana's profession of social work which only possesses filing police complaints. We could have also discounted Santoshi for giving ‘Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani' type confound climax. But what can't we ignore is the zig zag layer of emotions which doesn't get a single moment to sense anything except for the mother-son bonding between Padmini Kolhapure and Shahid Kapoor. For Shahid we have to say he gives his heart and soul to the flick. He emote you through his expressions, tickles your funny bone, and finally he is the show stealer.Ileana D' Cruz supports him well. Her character could have been more highlighted with her NGO work but still she does a good job. There was lot of expectations from Saurabh Shukla. But he disappoints or rather would say his character doesn't allow him to flourish a much better performance.Padmini Kolhapure is brilliant in her act. Her attachment with Shahid Kapoor is the highlight of the flick. She plays a perfect mother who blindly trusts her son.Pritam's music is brilliant. Among songs Rang Sharbato Ka is the one I pick as favourite while other songs are also good to hear.I'll go with two stars for Phata Poster Nikla Hero which kicks off well but disappoints a big time in the end.
