Weekend Box Office report: 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' emerges as the winner

Last Friday saw the release of two films belonging to two completely different genres -- comedy 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' and period drama 'Panipat'.

Last Friday saw the release of two films belonging to two completely different genres -- comedy 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' and period drama 'Panipat'. The two movies received mixed-to-good reviews from the critics, and even the audience seemed to shower them with love, and of course, money. But in the race at the Box Office, 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' looks set to win.

Starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles, the film earned Rs 14.51 crore on Sunday taking its total collection to Rs 35.94 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted on Twitter: "#PatiPatniAurWoh has a solid weekend... Day-wise growth - despite division of screen space [#Panipat] - is a plus and should ensure strong biz on weekdays... #KartikAaryan’s biggest 3-day opener... Fri 9.10 cr, Sat 12.33 cr, Sun 14.51 cr. Total: ₹ 35.94 cr. #India biz."

'Panipat' earned Rs 7.5-8 crore nett on Sunday, taking its weekend total to Rs 17.5-18 crore nett. The report added, "The collections are better in Mumbai and Nizam/Andhra but these circuits still not even average. The film has managed to grow on Saturday and Sunday and on both days it is more than 'Pati Patni Aur Woh'."

'Pati Patni Aur Woh' Rs 9.10 crore on Day 1 and became Kartik's biggest opener so far.

The film happens to be the remake of the 1978 film of the same name. It has been directed by Mudassar Aziz. 

Kartik has stepped into the shoes of late actor Sanjeev Kumar; Bhumi is seen in the wife's character played by Vidya Sinha and Ananya is the 'other woman', originally played by Ranjeeta.

'Panipat' had earned Rs 4.12 crore on the first day of its release. Arjun Kapoor plays the role of Maratha leader Sadashivrao Bhau and Sanjay Dutt plays the Afghan ruler 'Ahmad Shah Abdali'. Kriti Sanon played the role of Parvati Bai, the wife of Sadashivrao Bhau, and has been widely praised for her portrayal.
