Islamabad, July 10 : Pakistan's TV regulatory authority PEMRA has restrained cable operators from screening promos and reviews of Salman Khan's forthcoming film Ek Tha Tiger due for release during Eid around August 15.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has said that the film is aimed at tarnishing the image of the country's espionage agency ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence).

In a letter issued to all satellite TV channels and cable networks, PEMRA has said that the film Ek Tha Tiger is "reportedly based on the activities of ISI and RAW".

"Besides, basic theme of the story revolves around Inter Services Intelligence with the objective to tarnish the image of the state-owned institution", the letter said.

PEMRA has directed channels and cable networks "to refrain from airing promos and reviews" till it is issued a no-objection certification by the Central Board of Film Censors.

"The matter should be given utmost preference and due care be ensured to uphold the country's image and any unintentional lapse in this regard be avoided", the letter said.

In Ek Tha Tiger, Salman plays a RAW agent, who is sent to Pakistan to keep an eye on a college professor, who is suspected of selling missile technology secrets to Pakistan.

The romantic thriller with Katrina Kaif is directed by Kabir Khan.

In March, Pakistan's censor board had banned screening of Saif Ali Khan's film Agent Vinod on grounds that it portrayed ISI in an unflattering light.
