“I had never ever imagined that being sexy could be so hard!” Thus spake Mallika Sherawat to Mumbai newspaper DNA.
But then, the actor who's recently returned from her two-year-long stint of shooting and hobnobbing with the who's who in Hollywood explains that she felt so thanks to the snake-skin suit that she had to get under for her role in her international film Hissss. “It was fun letting my animal instinct take over in the rawest and wildest manner!” she laughs.
From collaborating with Sharon Stone to talking films with Javier Bardem, she's bursting with excitement as she settles down to share her experiences in LA with DNA.
Calling herself bi-continental, Mallika now plans to juggle her time between LA and here. “I will let my projects decide my journey,” she says. “I'm not afraid to experiment or ditch my sexy image,” she adds. Never mind that her image gets her all the male attention, including that of Hollywood biggies. “I've been getting enough female attention too.” Getting serious, she adds, “Men out there find Indian women very exotic and sexy.” So, what explains her single status?
“George Clooney's taken,” she laughs. Mallika may rule hearts there, but it's Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan that she's keen to work with here.
A trendsetter in her own right, she became the first Indian to be awarded the honorary citizenship in LA and is even recording a song with Julian Lennon. As for her naysayers, she says, “Well, they kept reminding me to achieve my dreams, so all I want to say is, ‘Thank You'!”
