London:  A prominent UK cinema chain has cancelled screenings of controversial Indian film Nanak Shah Fakir after hundreds of Sikhs held a sit-in in Wolverhampton this week.

The Odeon and Cineworld cinema chains have cancelled the screening of the Bollywood movie on Sunday.

The cinema theatre had to be cleared and closed after the protesters surged through the main entrance and headed for the screen of the movie.

Once inside, the Sikh campaigners sat down on the floor and began to shout, refusing to move until cinema bosses met their demands and stopped the screening.

Cineworld have apologised to customers and offered full refund to those affected.

A Cineworld spokesperson said it would stop showing the film because they want customers to enjoy visiting their cinemas and experience a wide range of films without disruption from others.

Odeon also confirmed it would also cancel planned screenings following the protest.
