Bollywood's 'Dhak Dhak girl aka Madhuri Dixit is celebrating her 48th birthday today. Regardless of her age, this enchanting beauty is getting prettier day by day. An actress with enviable dancing skills, Madhuri Dixit has melted millions of hearts in her nearly three decades career span.

Born on May 15, 1967 in Mumbai in a Marathi-speaking Koknastha Hindu Brahmin family, she is iconic diva of Bollywood par excellence in acting.

Madhuri Dixit began her Bollywood career in 1984 'Abodh'. The film failed at box office but Madhuri earned positive reviews from critics.

It was Mohini's character in N.Chandra's blockbuster 'Tezaab'(1988) opposite Anil Kapoor, in which Madhuri tasted her first commercial success. The film went on to become that year's highest grossing movie and Madhuri won Filmfare Best Actress Award.

Movies like 'Tridev' (1989), 'Kishen Kanhaiya', 'Dil', 'Jamai Raja' (1990), '100 Days', 'Saajan' (1991), 'Beta', 'Khel' (1992), 'Khalnayak' (1993), 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!' (1994), 'Raja', 'Yaarana' (1995), 'Prem Granth' (1996), 'Koyla', 'Mrityudand' (1997), made Madhuri achieve stardom and become leading lady of that era.

Madhuri tied the knot with Denver-based Dr Shriram Nene on October 17, 1999. After grabbing appreciation for her role as Chandramukhi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas' in 2002, she took a sabbatical from films to raise her children.

After a gap of four years Madhuri Dixit made a comeback in 2007 with 'Aaja Nachle'. Though the movie crashed on box office, it made Madhuri's comeback easier.

Meanwhile, Madhuri took a turn towards small screen as a judge dance based reality show and soon after ruled the small screen with her charm and elan. After spending over a decade in abroad she came back to India and permanently shifted to Mumbai in October 2011 with her family.

Apart from her regular outings in small screen, she also did a peppy dance number with Bollywood's heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor in his film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and she is totally smashed it.

In 2014, Madhuri Dixit returned to the silver screen, first as the sly Begum Para in 'Dedh Ishqiya' and then in a power packed role in "Gulaab Gang'.  On the eve of her 48th birthday, Madhuri has launched an app 'Dance with Madhuri' where Madhuri herself will be teaching you dance like a dive. The app is available on both ios and Android.
