Panaji, Dec 1: Legendary painter M F Husain's documentary ‘Through the Eyes of Painter' was screened at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011 here today amidst heavy security.
Right-wing organisations had threatened to demonstrate outside Kala Academy, where the documentary, a film on late artist's own journey, was screened. Around 150 policemen were posted at the venue to avoid any untoward incident.
Superintendent of Police (Security) Tony Fernandes said “everyone entering the premises was frisked as security agencies didn't want to take any chance.” Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had demanded that the screening, a tribute to the 95-year-old celebrated painter who died in June this year, be cancelled.
Protesters, who had claimed they would be gathering in large numbers at the venue, did not turn up. The organisers had earlier postponed the screening scheduled for November 27.
IFFI Director Shankar Mohan had said they are verifying legal repercussion of screening the movie as cases against the painter were pending in various courts.
The festival had witnessed demonstrations in support of Husain after the organisers dropped the initial screening of the documentary.
