Mumbai, Aug 7: After going 'desi' in Tees Maar Khan as Sheila and turning a cool biker in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Katrina Kaif has experimented with her look all over again in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan where she has gone grungy for her rockstar act in 'Dhunki'. While the look has certainly been noticed, it has turned out that she is finding herself in good company as far as the 'grunge factor' is concerned.
"Before Katrina, quite a few other leading ladies have gone through this avtar, some with successful and a few with not-to-successful results", says a stylist, "Aishwarya Rai's look in Dhoom 2 stays on to be the most popular of them all, especially in the song 'Dhoom Macha Le' where she had taken the grunge route with a vengeance as she matched steps with Hrithik. That stays on to be unforgettable and has pretty much stayed on to be a benchmark."
Other top actress who finds a special mention in the list is Kareena Kapoor who wore a two piece bikini for 'Chhaliya' but is remembered more for 'Dil Dance Maare' from the same film Tashan. "It was more of a rockstar hippie look and could have actually gone a long distance had the film being successful", the stylist continues, "However it was quite a sport on Kareena's part to actually carry off that look."
Comparatively Katrina's 'Dhunki' look is relatively safer since the makers haven't gone overzealous but still have styled it enough to go well with the mass as well as the class crowds.
"This is a first for Katrina and she has carried it off pretty well", says a fellow actor, "A look like this is always a dicey affair since it could go either ways. Thankfully it has been balanced well as is pretty much in synch with the setting of 'Dhunki' which is at Taj Mahal. It's a fusion of 'desi' and 'videshi' flavour that Katrina has carried off with aplomb."
Well, one can pretty much say that Katrina was in safe hands as her makers, Yash Raj Films, have a tradition of making their women go grungy in majority of their biggie outings.
"They have a thing for the grunge", chuckles a senior member of the film fraternity, "They showed hints of that in Dil To Paagal Hai as well where Madhuri had danced in a grunge look for a sequence or two. The experiment didn't quite work though with a newbie like Tanisha Mukerjee for Neal 'N' Nikki or Rani Mukerji in Ta Ra Rum Pum where she tried to take this route in the song 'Ab To Forever'. However Preity Zinta and Lara Dutta compensated for that during a few key scenes in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Katrina should now be taking the tradition further."
Well, the tradition only seems to be getting further popular what with revelation of Anushka Sharma's grunge look in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl.
