Ajmer, Jun 27:  TV star Karan Singh Grover, who plays a traditional Muslim guy in the daily soap 'Qubool Hai', says that he does not relate to the character he plays onscreen. "I am happy that my character is growing in the serial.

There are many layers in my role but I don't relate to it in real life. My character is contemporary but the thought process of the person I am portraying onscreen is traditional," Karan said during the show's promotion and  shooting in the city.

The Zee TV drama shot a separation scene between the two leads - Karan and Surbhi Jyoti- in Pushkar. The shoot opens up with a sad scene, where the couple have split and are parting ways with the song 'Tadap Tadap' playing in the backdrop.

"It's tough to shoot in extreme heat here. As the song is based on separation in the film, it is accurate for the situation that we are going through in the show," Karan said.

For the show, Karan, 31, had to learn Urdu and concentrate on the diction.

"Most of my learning took place on the sets. I didn't take any special training. My producer (Gul Khan) helped me with the diction. Script also helped me to learn the mannerism," the actor said.

Having started his career with MTV show 'Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi', Karan starred in many popular shows including 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay', 'Dill Mill Gayye' and also appeared on reality shows like 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' and 'Fear Factor -Khatron Ke Khiladi'.

"I have started my career in showbiz as a model but I didn't do well. I was actually a hotel management student and was also working at a hotel in Muscat and today I am an actor.

It all depends on the luck and that's why I don't plan my career," said the actor, who did a film also but it never got released.

Karan tied the knot with his 'Dill Mill Gayye' co-star Jennifer Winget last year after divorcing first wife Shraddha Nigam.

Asked about his marriage, the actor said, "I don't like to talk about my personal life."
