New Delhi: The movie ‘Talvar', which is based on the notorious murder of Aarushi Talwar, portrays actor Irrfan Khan as the cop who is allotted the task of solving the mystery.

Irrfan is definitely the super cop who won't rest till he solves the case. It was only obvious that Irrfan's character, Ashwin Kumar, would be compared to Rakesh Maria. The former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai has been handling another scandalous murder of the nation, the death of Sheena Bora.

Maria has been promoted to Commandant General of Home Guards, Maharashtra and Ashwin too is shunted from the case in the movie. Speaking on the uncanny resemblance between Kumar and Maria, the director of the movie Meghna Gulzar told a leading daily, “Irrfan's character is not in any way close to that of Rakesh Maria. The only similarity could be the sudden ousting of an investigative officer from a case.”

Meghna Gulzar took a break from the industry to raise her son Samay. On her comeback she says, “"It's been a long time, but I didn't want to be a part-time mother to my son. I'm grateful to be given an opportunity to make a film like Talvar.”

When asked if she had second thoughts about the movie given its controversial subject, she said,“On the contrary I felt that this is a story which had to be told as there are so many unanswered questions still. And I am happy that we didn't trivialise or sensationalise the subject, but made it with utmost responsibility.”

Dr. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, parents of deceased Aarushi Talwar, are the prime accused in the case and are currently in jail. They have expressed interest to watch the movie before its release. “That's what I too was told at the press conference today. If they want to see the film, we will be happy to show it to them,” said the 41-year-old director.

The movie will be premiered at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the director couldn't be more proud. ‘Talvar', slated for a release on 2nd October, also stars Konkana Sen Sharma and Tabu.
