New Delhi: The Income Tax Department today raided Tamil actor Vijay's residence in Chennai ahead of his film Puli's release. Nearly 250 officers of the IT dept were involved in the raid which took place in 35 different locations.
Residences of nearly 25 Tollywood stars, including actors Samantha and Nayanthara, were in the radar. Simultaneous raids were conducted in neighbouring Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and several cities of Tamil Nadu.
Superstar Vijay's high budget film Puli is up for release tomorrow. The film has been made with a budget of Rs 118cr. The movie's high budget seemed to have raised questions in the IT Dept as they suspect it to be excessive which might have led to tax evasion.
The raid was also conducted at Puli movie producer ST Selvakumar and director Simbuthevan's residences.
Puli is an upcoming Tamil film written and directed by Chimbu Deven. The film features Vijay in a dual role alongside an ensemble cast including Sudeep, Sridevi, Shruti Haasan, Hansika Motwani, Prabhu and Nandita Swetha.
