Mumbai : Having tasted success with light hearted films like ‘Ready' and ‘Housefull' and now anxiously waiting for her comedy flick ‘Bol Bachchan' to release, actress Asin insists that it is just a coincidence that she got all bubbly movies in her kitty.
“It is just a coincidence that ‘Ready', ‘Housefull 2' and ‘Bol Bachchan' have come back-to-back. It is not that I have special affinity towards them that I end up choosing them. It is not that I want to do only comedy or I have affinity for comedy or that I want to prove myself in comedy,” Asin told PTI.
After Anees Bazmee's ‘Ready' opposite Salman Khan and Sajid Khan's multi-starrer comic flick ‘Housefull', Asin will be seen in Rohit Shetty's ‘Bol Bachchan' alongside Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Prachi Desai in the lead. The film is set to release on July 6.
“Coincidentally comedies have come my way but it is not that I have consciously chosen that because I enjoy it. I am quite comfortable with comedy and I like doing it, especially when I have great co-stars...it is fun to do and it is entertaining,” she said.
But the southern beauty does not want to restrict herself doing only comedies. She wants to explore other genres as well, especially a romantic-comedy.
“I do feel that my entire side as an actor has not come out considering I am doing back-to-back comedies.
I would be happy if something different comes my way. I wish I could do other things...work in other genres but it is not one man show.
I will have to wait for someone to write a script which is different, which gives me scope for performance and takes me out of the world,” Asin said.
“I will like to try other genres and characters but within commercial format only. I am flexible all these kinds of genres. I am ok with drama or rom-com,” Asin said.
“I have a little soft corner for rom-com. But as of now nothing interesting in this format has come my way that I would like to be part of,” she added.
On if she would like to romance Shahrukh Khan in a movie, she said, “Of course I want to with Shahrukh Khan...I am just waiting for right kind of project to come my way.” Asin has worked with both the top Khans - Aamir and Salman in her earlier movies, the psycho-thriller ‘Ghajini' and ‘Ready', respectively.
Her name has been cropping up time and again for the forthcoming film ‘Two States' based on Chetan Bhagat's book ‘2 States: The Story of My Marriage', said to be jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. Debutant Abhishek Varman, who worked with Karan on ‘My Name is Khan' and is also the creative director on ‘Student of the Year', will direct ‘Two States'.
“I don't know, you will have to ask the makers about it. Even I am hearing rumours about it. I have read ‘2 States..' and I found it very entertaining.
Lot of people told me it would be nice if I play that role because of south culture. But the makers haven't approached me yet.” As of now, newcomer Arjun Kapoor has been zeroed in for the male role, while the leading lady is yet to finalised.
Till now, Asin has only worked with top notch actors of B-town, including Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, but she desires to work with younger lot of actors too.
“I want to work with younger actors...why not. How much ever friendly you are with your co-star...there is always a sense of respect and admiration to looking up to them. Probably to work with actors of my generation would be more fun,” Asin said.
She will be paired opposite Akshay Kumar for the second time in ‘Khiladi 786', an action comedy.
“I have ‘Khiladi 786', we just completed one schedule of the film with Akshay Kumar. It is an action-comedy...its lot of fun doing the film,” she added.
