Kolkata, Apr 12 : Award-winning filmmaker Anjan Dutta has praised this year's National Award winning movie ‘Shabdo' by Kaushik Ganguly, which revolves around the life of a sound artist of the Bengali film industry.

“Getting an award is important because it inspires filmmakers to do more such films that deal with unconventional subjects like foley art. I wish more and more people watch Shabdo,” Anjan told PTI.

One cannot ignore the role of a foley artiste, who reproduces everyday sounds in a movie during post-production work and without his work a movie will look very much unreal, Dutta adds.

Anjan, who had got the special jury award for “Ranjana Ami Ar Asbo Na” in the 59th National film awards last year, said that Kaushik was a young director and made some good films.

“Shabdo is in no way a film on silence. It resonates with sound throughout, but it is not film music. There is sound, but no music,” Kaushik, whose “Arekti Premer Galpo” (Just Another Love Story) had won the IFFI silver peacock in 2011, said.

Talking about foley artistes, he said that they formed an integral part of the film. “Strip the movies of their sound effects and they would look half-complete. We need to give them recognition.”

Kaushik was effusive about the performance of Ritwik Chakraborty, the protagonist in the movie, who had earlier wowed audiences with performances in “Cross Connections” and “Chalo Let's Go”.
