Mumbai, Nov 27: Over three million hits on YouTube in eight days, and more than 8.2 million links shared on Facebook in less than a week — this is something that even superstar Rajini couldn't have predicted, says his son-in-law Dhanush, who is behind the current online rage, the Kolaveri di song, reports HT.
“Rajini Sir listened to the song long before others did and said it'd become a hit. There is nothing actually that Rajini can't, but even he couldn't have predicted the grand success of Kolaveri di,” says the National award winning actor, whose real name is Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja. “We are just enjoying the success. It doesn't happen every day. The song has been received well for its simplicity,” he adds on phone from Chennai.
Kolaveri di (murderous rage) was released digitally on November 16 by Sony Music and it appeared as the number one Indian trend on Twitter on November 21. In the video, Dhanush is seen singing in a studio and composer Anirudh Ravichander on the keyboard, while Dhanush's director-wife Aishwarya, and co-star Shruti Hassan watch along. Recorded at 2:00 am, the song is for his film 3.
The song has received appreciation from Bollywood bigwig Amitabh Bachchan too, and Dhanush is speechless. “We are deeply moved and touched by Big B and Karan Johar for taking out time to listen and appreciate a Tamil song. It is a very sweet gesture on their part,” says the actor-singer.
Despite being a sensation down south, the 28-year-old is now harbouring directorial dreams in Bollywood. “I will not act in Bollywood films but I'll direct my first venture in Hindi. I've already written a script and it is an adventure. I have some actors in mind and I'm in talks with a few of them. Hopefully my film should go on floors by 2012 end,” says Dhanush.
