Toronto, June 25: Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has dismissed speculation that he did not attend previous IIFA events because of the then brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan.
“There was never a personal angst in my inability to make it to the IIFA. My children's summer holidays always coincided with the event and I wanted to spend time with them,” Shah Rukh said without naming Bachchan.
The actor is attending the IIFA awards after a gap of six years. He last attended the event in Amsterdam in 2005. The 45-year-old star said his children Aryan and Suhana are in New York and will be joining him for the glitzy award ceremony, which invites some of the biggest stars from the Mumbai film industry.
The actor-producer said IIFA was a property which the entire film industry was proud of since it showcased India to the entire world.“All actors may not be able to attend it despite an invitation because of their schedules,” he explained. “Amitabh Bachchan is a stunning actor and Dilip Kumar is another icon of mine,” he said about his screen favourites. SRK, who was limping due to a fracture in the knee said he was in pain but promised that he will not let his fans down. He said he plans to get the surgery done in July. “I had made a commitment to come here and had to fulfill it,” he said.
When asked who does he credit his success to, Shah Rukh said, “It is just that I did the right films at the right time and with the right people.”Talking about the advent of VFX in Hindi movies, Shah Rukh said Indian cinema was on the verge of losing out younger audience to the western cinema.
“We have to rope in the best brains in the West to work on visual effects in our films. The world has taken the best brains from India for their development and now India should also do that,” he said. PTI
