Review | Chhapaak trailer is out. And we cannot wait to watch the movie

Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey shine in the goosebump-inducing Chhapaak trailer. But what shines the brightest is Meghna Gulzar's touch -- simply said, we cannot wait for the movie.

The trailer of the much-awaited 'Chhapaak', featuring Deepika Padukone as an acid attack survivour, is out, and to say the least, it is going to go down in history. Deepika, who is also one of the producers of the movie, embodies vulnerability, strength, grace and hope -- all in equal measures. Deepika plays Malti -- a character based on a real life acid attack survivour Laxmi Aggarwal -- in the film, and Vikrant Massey is an able support to her.

This film will mark Deepika's return to the silver screen two years after Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat.

The two-minute-nineteen-second long video sheds light on the horrific acid attack, and the daily struggle Malti has to go through to come to terms with it. The scene in which Deepika breaks down in front of a mirror is a tear-jerker.

Deepika has sunk her teeth into the character; and looks every inch her role. Massey shines too.

And what shines the brightest is Meghna Gulzar's touch -- simply said, we cannot wait for the movie.

Deepika Padukone has also shared some hard-hitting posters from the film.

A few pictures from the trailer launch event have also gone viral that show Deepika getting teary even as she spoke about the movie.

"Thanks Meghna for trusting me with the film," Deepika said, as she hugged her director.

Deepika Padukone earlier detailed how the portrayal of Malti had impacted her.

"I literally had to burn the piece of prosthetics that I was wearing on the last day of the shoot. Because it impacted me in a way that I never experienced before. That was my way of trying at least to let go everything that I experienced. I literally burnt it. Prosthetics are expensive, we get charged per piece of prosthetics that the artist makes. But I took a call as a producer, I said I don't care, I need to heal emotionally," she said.

The actress shared the teaser to the trailer on Instagram and captioned it: "A moment is all it took."

"Chhapaak" is co-produced by Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar in collaboration with Fox Star Studios.

The film is scheduled for release on January 10, 2020.
