New Delhi :Actress Richa Chadda, who will be seen playing the female lead in mafia drama “Gangs of Wasseypur”, says she has no qualms of being a part of male-oriented film.

The 25-year-old plays the freaky wife of actor Manoj Bajpai in the Anurag Kashyap-directed film and said that her acting prowess would definitely be highlighted as it is the best time for female actors in the industry.

“It's a good time for actresses in the industry. Be it ‘The Dirty Picture' or ‘Vicky Donor', the female lead in the films have got accolades for their performance.

“I am happy to associate myself with this time when actresses are equally experimental as their male counterparts in the industry. There are no inhibitions towards the actresses now,” Richa told PTI.

Delhi-born Richa started her film career in 2008 as a supporting actress in Abhay Deol-starrer “Oye Lucky Lucky Oye”.

Few people know that she was actually discovered by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap during “Dev D” but she could not be the part of the film.

“I had auditioned for Anurag's ‘Dev D' and he liked my work. I got selected to play the character of Chanda.

But I was later replaced by Kalki Koechlin. Anurag promised me that he will take me in his next project and that's how I landed in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur',” said Richa.

“Since the beginning of my career I had a penchant for characters which are unconventional. I never liked running-around-trees kind of characters. In both my films, I have played completely different characters,” Richa said.

“Gangs of Wasseypur” will be released in two parts and the first part will be releasing on June 22.  The actress will be seen sporting a prosthetic stomach in the film and bombarding her husband with explicits.

“In the film, females are equally strong as males. They help their men in every aspect of the film. The role was quite challenging for me as it is completely different from what I am in real life.
When I get into a character I behave like a chameleon. I had to learn the Bhojpuri dialect for the film and understand the mentality of women in that area,” she said.

The crime thriller was showcased at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival and said the platform has given her an opportunity to appear in two international projects.

“After watching my performance in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur', I have been approached by filmmakers from Germany and New York.  Both the projects are at nascent stages. Being a newcomer in the industry and attending Cannes film festival is a big achievement in my career,” she added.

The actress will be seen next in a glamorous avatar in “Tamanchey”, which is reportedly based on the underworld love story of Abu Salem and Monica Bedi.

“I play the glamorous role of model in the film opposite actor Nikhil Dwivedi. The film is basically a love story set in the underworld,” she added.
